Nissan cars pictures

Nissan is set to change the urban landscape... for the third time. Following in the wheeltracks of the Murano large crossover and then the successful Qashqai – the car that three years ago introduced the concept of a crossover as an alternative to the traditional C-segment hatchback – comes its younger brother, the Nissan Juke.

Designed to bring a breath of fresh air to the B-segment, Juke is a distinctive combination of SUV toughness and sporting style. Conceived to inject some masculinity and dynamism into the small car market, Juke combines a number of seeming contradictions beneath its highly individual lines.

"It takes the best elements of an SUV and sports car and combines them," says Pierre Loing, Vice President, Product Planning, Nissan Europe. "It's roomy yet compact, robust yet dynamic and practical yet playful. These are qualities that seem to contradict each other, yet come together in Juke to create something that's genuinely unique."

Juke was created at Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in the heart of London, and refined at Nissan's Design Centre (NDC) in Japan. Principle engineering took place in Japan with significant European input and Juke will be built in Nissan's factory in Sunderland in the north-east of England.

"The design shows real optimism. By combining design elements from two genres to create a small, but striking Crossover that displays a genuine confidence and style. And those are qualities we also expect to find in a Juke customer," said Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President for Design and Chief Creative Officer

Daewoo Veritas

Daewoo Veritas

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) launched today its all new luxurious large sedan, the Veritas.

“Veritas” is Latin for “truth.” “The truth about the Veritas is it reflects GM Daewoo's determination to take Korea 's large sedan segment to an entirely new level,” said GM Daewoo President and CEO Michael Grimaldi. “This luxurious rear-wheel-drive sedan offers excellent driving performance while ensuring unmatched interior comfort, spaciousness and safety.”

The Veritas is based on the L4X concept car, which made its debut at last year's Seoul Motor Show. With the combination of a dynamic exterior and luxurious interior, the Veritas redefines the premium image of a large sedan.

“The Veritas represents the start of a new era for GM Daewoo, as we begin to replace our entire current product lineup with new segment-leading models between now and 2010,” said Grimaldi.

Just like with Citroën's Pluriel versatility and flexibility are key words in this design. Besides the opening roof and the usable boot space the flexible seating configuration, which can even allow for transporting long loads, adds to this.
In the interior translucent green weave material is used, in combination with leather on the seats. The transparent weave (and minimized design) should make the front seats appear less like a barrier to the people in the rear. With this the cabin looks roomy and organic.
A powerful engine complements this "versatile sportscar concept": a 6-cylinder 2.5 litre unit turning out some 200 hp. This is enough to propel the Musiro to a top speed of 250 kph and to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 7.9 seconds.

In theory the Musiro could be taken into production within a few years since its design is based on an existing platform for reduced development costs. Unfortunately this is not very likely given Daewoo's financial situation. It's a pity, I like this cars elegant and balanced design and the practical aspects that go with it. Maybe it would have given Daewoo's image a necessary boost.

modern cars photz

Even compared to modern cars it's still pretty quick. The main limiting factor is the standard motor which is easily changed. The other is the button magnet. The car is great going into a corner, but when it starts to slide the magnet is moved out of line with the rails and so the extra grip disappears - just when you need it most. The good news is that as long as the car isn't going flat out then it's fairly easy to recover.

The opportunity to rent a drop-top ‘Vette—instead of some gutless, sad, little econo-box—is pretty sweet, even if it costs 165 bucks per day. But with all the Big Brother-styled technology present on modern cars, you have to wonder if Avis is going to really let customers thrash on the cars. What’s going to happen the first time someone tries to bury the speedo on the freeway? Is some piece of tattle-tech going to alert Avis? We’ll probably know soon.

Zephyr cars picz

In case you don’t recognise the name or the image let me introduce you to the 1954 Ford Zephyr Mk1 sedan. The Ford Zephyr was an English car manufactured between 1951 and 1955. The engine for this car was a specially designed 6 cylinder overhead valve engine with a capacity of 2262cc.

In 1954 Ford introduced an upmarket version of the Zephyr known as the Zodiac and the car shown in the photo is thought to be one of those luxury vehicles. Of course, luxury was a relative term back in 1954 and by today’s standards the Zodiac would be considered somewhat spartan.

Electric Cars images

It might be necessary to tax electric cars to provide sufficient funds to expand the national grid and establish power stations. Energy firms are warning that electric cars could be a source for power cuts.

According to a recent calculation from an analyst at Saturn Energy a tax of 10 pence per mile would be required to account for the extra demand of energy.

It has already been predicted by the Climate Change Committee that by 2020, 1.7 million electric cars will be driving on Britain’s roads.

Experts confirmed that the National Grid is under pressure to provide enough electricity for Britain’s current needs. There would be a need for a rapid modernization to handle a rise in the volume of electric cars circulating in the country.

It was also suggested that electricity should be prices as much as petrol. This is certainly a negative factor for individuals who are buying electric cars for the sake of saving money.

The tax of 10 pence per mile could provide an amount of £1.7 billion a year. Assuming that the money is held for expanding energy capacity, it would be enough to establish 2 gas-fired power stations, 1 nuclear plant or as much as 10,000 new wind turbines per annum.

Unfortunately, the government will probably associate the tax to the general basket of expenditure. This would mean a less that optimum investment in energy capacity.

On the other side, experts are citing that electric vehicles are currently much less efficient than diesel engines even when the traditional power generation and environmental cost have been included.
